Mrs. Cooke was employed as the Superintendent of Schools for Kilgore ISD in East Texas for 5 years serving as the school district’s instructional leader 0f 4,083 students. She has a strong educational background in strategic planning and curriculum instruction. Superintendent Cara Cooke earned a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from the university of Tyler in 1987 and a Master of Education degree from Stephen F. Austin in 2002. The APISD Board of Trustees worked diligently through several Special Called Meetings to complete training on conducting a Superintendent Job Search conducted by the Texas Education Agency Region Service Center 2, to review candidate applications, and to interview the candidates for the school district’s Superintendent position. “ Naming a Superintendent for our school district is the single most important decision a school board does,” Board President Victor Galvan said. “We interviewed well qualified applicants and believe we have chosen the best person for the job to keep the school district moving forward and to help us as we progress to the next level of achievement”.

After the statutory required waiting period of 21 days, the Board of Trustees will vote on the hiring of our new instructional leader at a Regular Called meeting of the Board of Trustees in December.
